You can vote here or use the form provided in the Telegraph & Argus, and have until Wednesday 28 November.

The shortlisted entries for the award are:

Suhaib Ahmed – Suhaib is a local dad of three who has been nominated for his work with other fathers in the community through Better Start Bradford, as well as acting as a role model for other dads in Bradford. In order to pass on his own experience, he set up ‘DadTalk’ so fathers in the community could attend drop-in sessions to learn more about the development of their children from birth. He said: “By going to these events I’ve met a lot of dads and given advice and pointers. I’m a father of three and have a lot of experience so it’s what I can give back to the community, especially to dads. It’s how you spend time with your kids – reading, writing – it creates a bond.”

Our own Abida Rafiq, who nominated Suhaib, says: “As a father, he is very dedicated and wanted to be more involved with his children’s school life, so he changed his work pattern over the years to ensure he is able to free up some time to do so. Suhaib is a very reflective individual and very grateful for all the opportunities that have come his way and has shown willingness to develop his skills further to support other dads. He is an amazing role model.”

Parents in the Lead Panel – The Parents in the Lead Panel is a group of local parents who volunteer their time to support other groups who wish to set up activities and apply to Better Start Bradford for funding. The panel meets regularly to make key decisions on funding applications and provides support and guidance to applicants.

The panel has been actively involved for over a year and many have now become active champions for Better Start Bradford. The panel all have young children to take care of, however have managed to find time to dedicate in giving back to their community. They are very dedicated and go out of their way to source, encourage and provide guidance to those applying.

Panel member, Shabana Shaikh, says: “I think it’s amazing that us parents are being recognised for doing something good in the community.”

Panel member, Samina Begum, says: “It’s about getting that recognition and as parents realising that services aren’t coming in and telling us what to do. We know what’s best for our community and our children, we just need the funding and resources to be able to do that.”

You can vote here or use the form provided in the Telegraph & Argus, and have until Wednesday 28 November.

The awards will be presented at a ceremony at The Bradford Hotel on 6 December 2018.

The Community Stars Awards are in partnership with Telegraph and ArgusBradford Council and the community campaign ‘People Can Make a Difference’.
