I CAN Early Talk supports early years’ practitioners to improve speech, language and communication (SLC) for children aged 0-3.

They will also support early years providers to achieve the I CAN accreditation.
I CAN Early Talk aims to support improved communication and language development in 0-3’s. This will be achieved by ensuring consistent practice across the Better Start Bradford area.
Early years’ practitioners will be provided with continuous professional development around communication and language, and early years’ settings will be supported to gain I CAN accreditation.
Who’s it for?
Practitioners within early years who are registered to deliver early education for two-year olds (including childminders and schools).
Where and when is it delivered?
Training will be provided in the group’s own early years’ setting. Individuals, such as childminders, will also be invited to join group training sessions where appropriate. Training sessions will be held as requested by the childcare/education provider. Training for Early Talk 0-5 Working with Under 3’s and Early Talk 0-5 Working with Parents to Early Years Practitioners is equivalent to one day per course. Training can be delivered in one 5-hour session, two separate 2.5 hour sessions or via two 2.5 hour twilight sessions, whatever is best for the child care/education provider. Mentoring to support accreditation is set at one day per term.
How do families book on/register? This project is for employees, practitioners and partners in the Better Start Bradford area who work with children under four. I CAN will help families, but families can’t book on this project.
I CAN is a national children’s communication charity. It has been developing early language training resources for over 10 years. In the Better Start Bradford area there will be two training strands offered, plus support for the accreditation of the child care/education provider:
